volume expresses the commitment of family therapists to deepen the depression at different stages of life cycle and its link with the dynamics families and couples. The aim is to show therapeutic strategies able to deal with it.
What are the dynamics of torque between recurrent depressed patients and their partners? And with families of origin? And then as it is manifested as depression in children and adolescents? You can locate a particular way in which we organize meanings and feelings in these families? And what are the most appropriate therapeutic strategies in these situations?
The idea that depression was a disease of the brain, caused by alteration of the biochemical, dominant in the last two decades of the last century, had relegated these fascinating questions in a marginal position. The solution to the problems of depression seemed only drug.
This view is now fundamentally challenged. From this decade, especially in America, has developed a literature that has raised serious criticism of the theory of biological psychiatry and psychopharmacology and the indiscriminate use of antidepressants, Prozac in the first place. It is a literature that urges family therapists to put depression the center of his interests and to develop appropriate forms of assistance, as well as to distinguish it from the existential sadness.

Loriedo Camillo, a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", is president of the European Society of Hypnosis and the Italian Society of Hypnosis.
Maurizio Andoh was born in Rome in 1942. In 1975 he founded the Institute of Family Therapy, an experience that will end in 1992, when it comes the present Academy of psychotherapy with the family of which he is director. In 1977 he founded family therapy journal in the top Italian and international cultural debate, which still directs. He is currently professor of child psychiatrists and Psychodynamics of development and family relations at the faculty of psychology at La Sapienza University in Rome. In recent years, his social commitment was expressed in most of the projects undertaken by the Foundation Silvano Andoh, addressed to issues of immigration, cultural mediation and the situation of social marginality.
Valeria Ugazio carries out its educational and therapeutic activities in Milan, where he lives and directs the European Institute of Systemic Therapies-relational, which he founded in 1999. It is also professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Bergamo, where he coordinates the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology.
