MANIFESTO
International Network for Trans Despathologization
lawyers and groups who sign this document and are part of the International Network for Despathologization Identities 'Trans (International Network for Trans' Identities 'Despathologization), publicly denounced once again the psychiatrization of our identity' and serious consequences of the "Identity Disorder 'Gender (DIG). Similarly, we want to give visibility 'to the violence faced by intersex people with existing medical procedures. The term "psychiatrization" to the practice of defining and treating transexuality 'as a mental disorder. We refer also to the consideration of identity 'and bodies "not under" (those outside the dominant division) as a body and identity' disease. The
psychiatrization from 'de facto psychiatric institutions and medical control of our identity' gender. The current practice of these institutions, motivated by interests of state, religious, economic and political, reflects and reproduces the pair male / female, passing off this position to where the real and natural. This combination implies the existence of only two bodies (male and female) and a behavior associated with each of them (male and female). At the same time has traditionally regarded heterosexuality ' as the only possible relationship between the two.
Today, with the denunciation of this paradigm, which has so far justified the current social order with the arguments of nature and biology, we want to highlight the social effects to put an end to these political claims. Those bodies that do not anatomically correspond to the current Western medical classification, are called "intersex" - if already provided for 'considered a disease. To date, this classification is not called into question, so 'as not called into question the gender ideology that psychiatry developed considering transexuality' a reality ' problematic. The legitimacy of those social norms that are part of our experiences and our feelings, makes it obscured and pathologisation all reality 'different, forming a single track that does not question the political dogma that forms the basis of our society ': the existence of only two unique and exclusive alternatives of existence and feelings. If you make invisible violent means to impose a surgery and "normalizing" the new born intersexed (those with ambiguous genitalia) will be 'done. Especially when the main purpose and 'to eliminate the possibility' of choice of these bodies and to block the existence of these differences.
The paradigm which is inspired by the current procedures for the "care" of transsexuality 'and intersex' refers to the de facto standardization of medical procedures binary. It is "normalization" because 'reduce diversity' only two alternatives: those considered statistically and politically "normal." With our criticisms of these procedures, we refuse even to adapt to the psychiatric definitions of man and woman to live out our identity ', so that the value of our lives is recognized without eliminating diversity' that stands out. We do not intend to submit to any labels or definitions imposed on us by the medical institution. We call the right to define themselves. Today transexuality 'is considered an "Identity Disorder' Sex," a mental disorder classified in the ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, the WHO) and the DSM-IV-R (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, from ' APA): These ratings are what 'that guides psychiatrists from around the world in their diagnosis. In them we find an error no means accidental: the confusion with the effects of transphobia transexuality '. Violence against those who do not follow social standards of gender equality are made invisible, so that the problem is transphobia, and transexuality ', is actually ignored. The revision of the DSM-IV-R and 'a process that began two years ago, and aims to determine which updates the list of diseases. Some months ago there was published the names of psychiatrists who will determine the future of the DIG. The main figures of the working group DIG are, among others, Dr. Zucker (the director of the group) and Dr. Blanchard. These psychiatrists are well known for the use of remedial treatments on homosexuals and transsexuals, and are also linked to clinics operating intersex people: what 'they propose is not' just do not delete from the DIG, BUT ALSO ' to expand the treatment of those children who have the kind of behavior is not their origin, applying to them so that therapies' accept their "role" organic. For this reason the North American Trans Movement demanded the expulsion of these two people from the group responsible for revision of the DSM. The International Network for Despathologization Identities' Trans fully supports this request. The
pathologization of transexuality 'under the DIG and' an extreme attempt to control and standardization. The treatment of this disorder is applied in several centers around the world. In some cases, as in Spain, and 'required to undergo psychiatric monitoring in charge of the Centers for Gender Disorder. In some cases, this monitoring and 'related in weekly sessions of group therapy and family, and all sorts of other degrading processes that violate our rights. In Spain, therefore, anyone who wants to change her name on official documents, or who want to change your body with hormone treatments, can 'only do so under psychiatric monitoring. Finally, we turn directly to the politicians. Our demands are clear:
• We demand the withdrawal of transexuality 'manuals of mental disorders (DSM-IV-R and ICD-10) and the end of treatment on intersex children.
• We demand the right to change name and sex on official documents without having to undergo a psychiatric or medical monitoring. We also think that the state should not have any jurisdiction over our names, bodies and identity 'here
• Take inspiration from the feminist movement in its struggle for abortion rights and their bodies: we demand the right to decide freely whether or not we modify our bodies. We demand the right to continue in our decision without bureaucratic obstacles, political or economic, there 'any other kind of medical coercion. We want health care systems of each nation to take a clear position with respect to the DIG, which recognize transphobia and everything 'resulting benefit, and that they review the health care programma about transsexualism, making unnecessary the psychiatric monitoring and tracking psychological voluntary option. Also asks' them to stop the surgery on intersex infants. •
denounce the extreme vulnerability 'and the difficulties of' community 'trans on the labor market. We call on the guarantees for access to the labor market and that are put in place specific policies to end social exclusion and discrimination in our community '. We also demand safety and health of sex workers, so 'as the end of the siege of the police and the sex trade. •
particularly vulnerable situation of trans people are those immigrants who come to our country fleeing from situations extremely violent. We ask for these cases the immediate granting of political asylum, and at the same time, we ask that the general rights of all migrants are placed on the same level. We denounce the effects of current policies on foreign workers in sectors which are more 'vulnerable.
• While we cry that we are not victims, but entities' assets and the ability 'to decide our identity', we remember all the assaults, murders and suicides of trans people due to transphobia. We believe the "system" guilty of these outrages. Silence = Complicity 'Finally, we want to show the extreme rigidity' with which the pair male / female is imposed as the sole and exclusive option: having built a pair, can 'be questioned. The mere fact that we exist proves its fragility 'and points to a reality' diverse and pluralistic. Diversity 'we want to dignify' today. When the medicine or the state we call 'troubled', and 'proof that our identities', our lives, upset many of the system.
why we say that the disease is not 'to look for in ourselves but in the combination of gender. Publicly announce that the International Network for Despathologization Identities 'Trans' born to create a global coordination for our main goal: the withdrawal of transexuality 'from DSM-IV-R in 2012.
A first step for diversity ', a first shot to transphobia. For the diversity 'of our bodies and our identities'!
transphobia is what makes us sick!
